Judging from the caption, it was probably taken before 1896. It is interesting to see the dress and expressions of the people as well as the street performer with a monkey. This photograph was sold, along with other similar photographs and a stereoscope for viewing, in a paper box set entitled JAPAN THROUGH THE STEREOSCOPE.
