Ogawa was born in the Oshi district (present-day Gyoda City in Saitama Prefecture). He later ran a photographic printing business. Although it is not clear when he visited Kamakura, the details depicted indicate that the photograph was taken around the same time as photograph #4674, or between 1887 and 1892.
